Realtime Gaming is an online casino software manufacturer. The operation has produced download-based online casino software since 1998, when it was founded in Atlanta, GA. Due to the increasingly adverse US legal environment in regards to online gambling, the company moved to Costa Rica in 2007, in the wake of the infamous 2006 UIGEA.
In January, 2007, RTG was acquired by a subsidiary of the HBM Group, Hastings International. RTG has provided software for several operators. One of the biggest RTG operators was the Crystal Palace Group. Several of the group’s casinos were involved in dubious practices and various scandals though and the whole outfit faded away following the death of owner Warren Cloud in 2008.
There were other RTG casinos plagued by various problems too. One of the highest-profile RTG operators, which has never really had any such problems is Sloto Cash.
RTG is one of the most popular software makers with online casino operators to this day. The reason is a simple one: RTG offer their licensees increased freedom in comparison to other software manufacturers. What this means is that RTG basically leaves the observance of local laws governing online gambling to their operators. Many of the operators are therefore able to accept US traffic despite the adverse US legislation, an option which is still considered a key one for the continued thriving of online gambling operations.
